Local user to reset their password in linux

In this post i am going to explain resting password of a local user by himself. To make your account secure change your password complex. I am going to help you how to do it by your self without the help of super user(root).

Lets consider this as an scenario by adding a local user call testing and i am assigning a password to user testing. Once its done i am giving the credentials to the local user for accessing. Then the local user is changing the password by himself.

Step 1: Add a local user

#useradd testing

Step 2: Assign password to the local user

#password testing

Step 3: Ask the local user to login by himself

#su - testing

Step 4: Change the password by Local user.

#/usr/bin/passwd

First time it will ask you to provide your old password. Then give you new complex password two times to update.

That’s it your password changed successfully.
