How to install GNOME in CentOS/Redhat and Ubuntu

 

 

Question: How do i install gnome in CentOS/Redhat and Ubuntu

 

The following steps provide you how to install GNOME in CentOS/Redhat

Step1: yum groupinstall “GNOME Desktop Environment”

The above command is used to  install the gnome package.

Step2: yum grouplist

The above command will display installed and available group. In that you can find “GNOME Desktop Environment” package will be present in Installed group. Hence it is installed.

Step3: service xfs start
           chkconfig xfs on

Start xfs service now and in startup.

The following steps will provide you how to install GNOME in ubuntu

Step1: apt-get install gnome-core
apt-get install gnome
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

The above all commands will install the GNOME in Ubuntu

Step2: dpkg -l | grep -i gnome

The above command is used to verify GNOME is installed or not.
